Twitter product manager Esther Crawford is out of a job at the company after another wave of layoffs, as first reported by Platformerby Zoë Schiffer. Crawford has led various Twitter projects, including the company’s Blue with subscription verification as well as Twitter’s upcoming payments platform.
Alex Heath on The Verge confirmed Crawford and most of the rest of the product team were fired this week, leading to speculation that Twitter owner Elon Musk may be about to install a new regime at the company.
In a recent interview, Musk said, “I need to stabilize the organization and make sure it’s in a healthy financial place with the product roadmap clearly laid out” before saying -an “before the end of the year” would be good. time to find a replacement for himself as Twitter CEO.
During his time at Twitter, Crawford emerged as one of the most popular product managers at Twitter under the leadership of Elon Musk, and especially. tweeted a photo of himself on the Twitter office floor in a sleeping bag and eye mask. “When your team is pushing around the clock to make deadlines sometimes you #SleepWhereYouWork,” the tweet read.
Crawford “began fishing for a bigger role” shortly after taking over from Musk, as documented in this Twitter look from Schiffer, Casey Newton, and Alex Heath. He also commented on Musk’s massive layoffs that halved the company’s workforce last year, and at the time wrote on Slack that “many cuts are needed to survive, no matter who owns the company.”
