Twitter experienced several glitches on Monday as links stopped working, some users could not log in and images did not load for others.
The company, which has experienced an uptick in instability and bugs in recent months after Elon Musk cut its staff, said “Some features of Twitter may not work as expected today. We made an internal change that had some unexpected consequences. We are working on it now and will share an update when it is fixed.
An attempt to visit Twitter’s help page on Monday led to an error message that said “Your current API plan does not include access to this endpoint” and displayed a link to a software developer page that doesn’t work either.
According to Downdetector, users began reporting outages just before noon US Eastern time. Internet access watchdog NetBlocks said that “Twitter is currently experiencing international slowdowns and outages that are affecting many users,” and noted that it is also affecting image and video content. Some users cannot see pictures posted by other users.
Engineers and experts at Twitter have warned that the platform is at increased risk of collapse since Musk fired most of the people who worked on its maintenance. Last month, a bug left users unable to send tweets.
Back in November, engineers who left Twitter described to The Associated Press why they expected bad news for Twitter’s more than 230 million users today, more than two-thirds of the pre-Musk core services engineers. of the San Francisco-based company is apparently gone.
Although they don’t expect an imminent collapse, engineers say Twitter can be very harsh on content — especially if Musk makes big changes without much testing outside of the platform.
